PlayStation Stars will no longer give credit for money spent on subscriptons

PlayStation Stars will no longer give players credit for money spent on subscriptions, following an update.

The program, which gives players points based on how much moned they spent on the PlayStation Store, as well as the completion of in-app quests, allows them to trade those points for PSN credit, among other items.

Until now, money spent on subscriptions, such as PS Plus and EA Play, would contribute to a user’s PlayStation Stars level. That is no longer the case.

PlayStation Stars points will now also expire just over a year from the date they were acquired, rather than two years.

An email sent to PlayStation Stars users reads:

What has changed?

Effective October 24, 2024:

● New Points earned will expire at the end of the month plus 12 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance. Points earned prior to October 24, 2024 will continue to expire at the end of the month plus 24 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance.

Effective March 1, 2025:

● The definition of “Eligible Purchases” will be updated to exclude all subscription payments made on PlayStation Store (including any initial or renewal subscription payments for PlayStation Plus or any other subscription service), which means that Points will no longer be earned on subscription payments.

PlayStation Stars launched in late 2022 via the PlayStation App. At the time, Sony said it planned to expand the service to consoles at a later date.

“By joining PlayStation Stars, you can use your gaming skills to collect unique digital collectibles and earn rewards,” according to the platform holder.

“Complete campaigns, earn points and show off your collectibles in a digital display case on PlayStation App as a way of celebrating your love of play and PlayStation experiences.”
