Alamoti has secured a new deal with the four-time defending premiers that runs until the end of 2027 after scoring the winning try in Penrith’s defeat of Melbourne. Once viewed as one of the most highly-rated juniors in the game, Alamoti left Canterbury for a lifeline at the Panthers and became a mainstay in the centres following the sacking of Taylan May. The 20-year-old scored eight tries in 16 NRL games for Penrith and his impressive form has led to him winning his maiden Test cap for Tonga in the Pacific Championships. “We’re pleased to have Paul commit to Panthers until the end of 2027,” said Penrith football manager Shane Elford. “Paul is an exceptionally talented and respectful young man, both on and off the field. “He has taken every opportunity presented to him, and we are excited to see what the future holds for him with the Panthers.” Meanwhile, the Warriors have ensured livewire fullback Taine Tuaupiki will remain in Auckland for a further year after he netted a new deal that runs until the end of 2026. Tuaupiki has proved a valuable deputy in the No.1 jersey for coach Andrew Webster over the last two seasons. “Whether he’s coming into the NRL side or playing in the New South Wales Cup, Taine gives us so much quality,” Webster said. “It’s not just the quality in his play but the energy and enthusiasm he provides every day.” Elsewhere on Thursday, Newcastle announced the retention of back-rower Brodie Jones on a one-year extension.
