Insomniac Canceling Spider-Man 2 DLC is Good News for Venom Game

After Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 debuted for PlayStation 5 in October 2023, gamers were almost immediately wondering about the potential story DLCs. After all, Spider-Man (2018) was blessed with an expansion just one month after its release, yet neither Sony nor developer Insomniac Games gave the word on Spider-Man 2‘s story DLC.

However, everything changed with the dreadful Insomniac data breach in December 2023, with a ***** revealing at least three more expansions for the game that would’ve explored unfinished plotlines. Unfortunately, Insomniac has confirmed that it’s not bringing any additional expansions for the Spider-Man sequel. While that’s disappointing, it could be a game-changer for the upcoming Venom game.

Spider-Man 2‘s Cancelled Story DLCs Will Benefit Insomniac’s Upcoming Project

Last December, when Insomniac was struck with massive leaks, it wasn’t the Spider-Man 2 DLCs that were exposed. We also got a list of games Insomniac had been working on, and one of those titles was centered around Venom and was called “Venom: Lethal Protector.” It’s supposed to pick up right after the events of Spider-Man 2 and bring gamers an experience similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

With the confirmation that Spider-Man 2 won’t be receiving any DLCs, it could play right into the Venom game. Both these games are from Insomniac, and the project teams working on these titles have considerable overlap, if not the same team.

To this end, resources might have been saved from axing any story DLCs for the second Spider-Man game and poured into the Venom project. The expansions for the Spider-Man sequel were called Beetle Infestation, Spider-Verse- Anomaly, and Extreme Carange.

While they were extremely small in scope and contained a single mission each, Insomniac could always twist things and expand their horizon in the Venom game.

That’s not all; since all DLC plans have been dropped, it could allow the Venom game to commence quicker, though how Marvel’s Wolverine is also in development factors into this ******** to be seen.

It’s unlikely for the Insomniac’s Venom game to debut in 2025. If it were on the table for next year, it would’ve always been revealed by now, but PlayStation has been reducing the gap between its releases, so a 2025 release can’t be ruled out completely.

At Least Spider-Man 2‘s PC Port is On The Way

It’s unclear why the rumored story expansions for the Spider-Man sequel were canceled. It’s possible that Sony and Insomniac concluded that it just wasn’t worth the effort and investment to make a free DLC for the game and that even if they were locked behind a paywall, they weren’t good enough to charge money for.

It’s truly a shame that the expansions would never see the light of the day. However, at least we can see Spider-Man 2 on PC soon. The PC port for the critically acclaimed game is all set to release on January 30th, 2025.

Two editions of the PC port will be ready to purchase on launch. The first edition will feature the base game alongside the plethora of post-launch additions that have been released, such as New Game Plus and accessibility features.

Then, we have a Digital Deluxe Edition, which brings exclusive DLC suits for Miles and Peter, early unlocks for Miles’ Shadow-Spider Suit and Peter’s Arachknight Suit, and extra skill points to use at the beginning of the game.

The game’s success will definitely grow to new heights now that it’s headed for PC, with fans and modders alike now able to ***** into the complete Insomniac Spider-Man saga before the third chapter releases.

With that said, do you think Insomniac Games has made a massive blunder by abandoning DLC plans for Spider-Man 2? Let us know in the comments below.
