The Lake House Is The Perfect Runway For Control’s Sequel To Take Off or Remedy Can Use It For Something Entirely Different

Alan Wake 2’s second and last DLC, The Lake House, is out. The expansion is a key piece in Remedy Entertainment’s interconnected universe. This new DLC for the beloved game brings closure to the Alan Wake saga and lays the groundwork for future stories in the Control franchise.

Remedy’s approach to world-building and storytelling across its games allows The Lake House to act as both a standalone experience and a bridge to Control’s highly anticipated sequel. But while it could be a connector to Control 2, there’s potential for Remedy to explore entirely new directions.

Alan Wake 2‘s DLC is Laying The Groundwork For Remedy’s Future

Set in a Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) outpost, The Lake House introduces Agent Kieran Estevez from Alan Wake 2’s main story as the protagonist. We follow Estevez as she explores a dark, supernatural outpost.

The Lake House outpost has gone dark, overrun by supernatural threats called the Painted. Through Estevez’s perspective, players gain fresh insights into Remedy’s shared universe.

Remedy’s integration of characters, themes, and gameplay mechanics across Alan Wake and Control shows how the studio likes to build its interconnected universe. While Control’s second DLC set up the story for Alan Wake‘s sequel, The Lake House does the same by laying the groundwork for the Control sequel.

According to director Kyle Rowley’s interview with

, the Alan Wake and Control teams collaborate closely, sharing ideas and feedback.

It’s very, very much a collaboration between the two teams… We’re inside the same building, so it’s very easy for us to just set up meetings and have discussions about stuff.

The seamless stories between these two franchises are a hallmark of Remedy’s storytelling approach. Newcomers can enjoy the story on its own, but long-time fans will find even deeper connections.

Remedy Could Take It Anywhere From The Next Control Game To FBC: Firebreak

The Lake House represents the closing chapter of Alan Wake 2 and a way into Control 2, but Remedy could use it for something more. The studio is venturing into multiplayer gaming with FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative shooter set within the same universe.

Firebreak is Remedy’s first entry into multiplayer, and it’s clear that the studio is taking steps to ensure it retains the creativity and depth that fans expect. Players will take on missions as first responders in the FBC, fighting off supernatural threats in Control’s iconic setting, The Oldest House.

Remedy has made it clear that Firebreak is not a direct sequel to Control but rather a spin-off that retains the same eerie charm and creative absurdity. According to the studio, the best part about Firebreak is that it won’t have the usual problems of live-service games.

Given the deep ties between Alan Wake 2 and Control, The Lake House expansion seems to function as a narrative bridge that fans of both franchises can cross.

Whether it’s building anticipation for the Control sequel or dropping subtle hints about Firebreak, Remedy is demonstrating that they can tell stories across multiple games without losing sight of what makes each title special.
