Kansas school superintendent arrested; staff thanked for keeping students safe

In the wake of an incident Friday that landed Lyndon USD 421 Superintendent Brad Marcotte in jail, the district is thanking its staff members for ensuring no students were harmed.

The district’s Board of Education placed Marcotte on administrative leave after he was arrested last Friday afternoon on suspicion of child endangerment and obstruction, the district’s parents were told in an email that evening by Bryant Derley, president of that board.

“We want to thank our staff for acting quickly and following our safety procedures to protect students and keep them out of harm’s way,” the email said. “If you have any concerns about how the situation affects your child, please contact your child’s principal or me.”

Lyndon High School Principal Tanner Smith provided The Capital-Journal a copy of the email on Monday.
