Waroona Warriors women’s team play first-ever match and men’s side beat Hornets

The Waroona Warriors women’s team played their inaugural match at the weekend as the men’s side managed to secure their second win of the season.

In their first-ever game on Sunday at their home ground in Waroona, the women lost to Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club but received strong support from the community who turned out in good numbers.

The team left the pitch in high spirits despite their defeat.

On the men’s side, the A-grade Warriors continued their success with their second win of the season over the Rockingham Hornets.

The Warriors bowled first after losing the toss, and Ollie Herrington dominated with three wickets in 6.2 overs.

His performance was followed by the rest of the team who made short work of the Hornets who were all-out for 88.

When the Warriors went in to bat, opening pair Nicholas Milligan and Jayden De Rosa made a solid start.

De Rosa demonstrated his capability as a top-order batsman, keeping strong for 64.

Though Milligan was dismissed, Joel Catalano’s brief stay at the crease did not deter the Warriors’ momentum.

The reintroduction of Burhan Niaz, a powerful hitter returning from Belgium, allowed the team to finish the innings in style, quickly securing the victory at 2-90.
