West *********** all-rounder Cameron Green posts positive update after spinal surgery in New Zealand

West *********** all-rounder Cam Green has undergone back surgery in New Zealand, posting a positive post-operation update from his hospital bed.

Green made the call to undergo lower spine surgery this month after he suffered a fifth stress fracture while on Australia’s white-ball tour of the *** in September.

The decision means the towering all-rounder will miss Australia’s blockbuster summer of cricket against India, as well as a tour of Sri Lanka, with a minimum six-month healing and rehabilitation *******.

However, the 25-year-old looked in good spirits after the operation overseen by New Zealand-based surgeons Grahame Inglis and Rowan Schouten, posting a photo with a double thumbs up to his

account on Sunday.

He also added a comment and photo celebrating his first walk to get coffee since the ******** surgery.

Green flew across the ditch this week, following in the footsteps of state teammate Jason Behrendorff, James Pattinson, Ben Dwarshuis, and New Zealand quicks Shane Bond and Matt Henry to have screws and a titanium cable fused into his lower back.

The screws and cable are hoped to stabilise the stress fracture and prevent future occurrences, improving Green’s longevity as a bowler.

It has been revealed the West Aussie has a “unique defect” in his back near the site of his stress fractures that is believed to have contributed to the injury.

It’s a ***** for the promising West *********** after he found his grove batting at No.4 in the Test team while in New Zealand in February, crashing a career-best unbeaten 174 in tricky conditions.

Speaking at the WACA Ground last week, Test teammate Marnus Labuschagne said he believed Green would come back an even better player.

“You always feel bad for people when they get injured, especially when it’s someone you’re close with and someone that’s a big part of our Test team,” he said.

“But you never know, there is always a silver lining with everything that happens and we’re not sure what that is yet, but maybe with a bit of time of, a bit of rest, he can come back even better than the Cam Green we have seen.

“Obviously I hope it’s a speedy recovery.”
