The end of FBT exemptions for PHEVs in Australia is coming too soon

In April 2025, *********** motorists will lose the ability to save substantial sums of money when leasing a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). This is because the EV Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption for novated leased vehicles is ending for PHEVs.

This isn’t a good outcome for anyone who wants to save money leasing a new PHEV and save money on fuel compared to a plain petrol or diesel passenger car, SUV or ute. It’s also not in line with the purpose of the legislation, which was incentivising cleaner cars that could emit less CO2.
