Kind Strangers Line Up to Clear Shelters Amid Hurricane Milton in Tearjerking Video

There’s some good news for a south Florida animal shelter. Employees at the Medley Animal Shelter say that their kennels have almost all been cleared out after sending out a **** ahead of Hurricane Milton. The shelter had over 100 animals who needed temporary lodging. And miraculously their entire community stepped up.

Ahead of the oncoming storms Medley had a huge problem. Many of their animals were being kept in outdoor kennels. So potential flooding from the hurricane posed a serious threat.

 on October 8, all waiting to give the rescue dogs temporary homes.

“A lot of these, ya’ know, outdoor kennels within this area are going to be really not safe for these dogs,” one man looking to foster told the news outlet.

Over the weekend there were over 160 dogs who needed emergency housing. By midweek nearly all have found a place to stay. It’s incredible, considering that without the help of kind people like these the Medley dogs would be in serious trouble.

“This weather is supposed to bring flooding. We know we’re going to get high winds and just the sounds of a storm — it’s so stressful for a dog,” one employee told the news outlet. She added that for any of these dogs to feel “safe and secure” during this stressful time was such a blessing.

The alert even caught the attention of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who raised awareness about the cause on his own social media pages.

“That’s a South Florida, Miami-Dade shelter [….] they’re expecting flooding. We need foster people — foster parents — just Tuesday to Saturday for the doggies,” he said.

The urgent call to action helped. The shelter says that for the first time ever, they expect all of their kennels to be cleared. There are still a few dogs left, however, so if you or someone you know is in the area and has space for a needy animal, the shelter is still looking for volunteers. You can also reach out to other shelters in the area who also might be looking for help.

“This is really something that we weren’t ready for, but we’re so happy,” the Medley shelter employee said.
