Sheffield Shield: Cam Bancroft out for his second duck in Western Australia’s clash with Queensland

Cam Bancroft has made a rare pair, dismissed for a duck in the second innings of Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland.

And it comes with a spot in Australia’s Test team set to open up for the first match of the home summer.

Bancroft edged a Michael Neser delivery and was caught behind for the second time in the match as the heat goes on domestic batters in the opening rounds of the first-class season.

It left WA 1-0 and they held a lead of 98 after Queensland’s first innings score of 367.

Bancroft has been the best domestic batter in the country across the past two seasons, but his scoreless match at the WACA Ground will undoubtedly put a dent in his hopes of a Test recall.

The right-handed opener has played 10 Tests, but none since 2019.

Marcus Harris made a first-innings century for Victoria on a batter-friendly Junction Oval wicket on Tuesday, while New South Wales teenager Sam Konstas has emerged as a Test smokey.

The 19-year-old made his second century in their match against South Australia in Sydney.

It comes with selectors set to weigh up replacing the injured Cam Green with an opener and sliding Steve Smith back into the middle order, or picking another all-rounder.

Neser has done his chances of a recall no harm if Australia’s team balance was to get a shake-up, with his second dismissal of Bancroft taking his haul for the match to six.
