Days Gone Director is at it Again

Days Gone was an underrated PlayStation gem that was released in an underwhelming state back in 2019 but Bend Studio was able to bounce back and got the game to run smoothly on both PS4 and PS5 and eventually on PC.

However, initial reviews affected Sony’s judgment and canceled any future installments leaving fans with the ultimate cliffhanger.

John Garvin Strikes Back About The Canceled Days Gone Sequel

Bend Studio had plans for a Days Gone 2 but PlayStation isn’t interested at all.

In a recent post on X, director John Garvin dropped his two cents and shared his opinion of how he thinks Sony viewed his game. Truth be told, Days Gone had plenty of issues, especially on a technical aspect but was remedied with a series of patches and updates and can be easily forgiven thanks to its riveting storyline and entertaining gameplay.

Garvin believed Sony wanted to redistribute its resources and first-party developers to work on live-service games rather than another single-player narrative experience.

Garvin carried on and went on record about his significant contribution to the game by stating he single-handedly wrote the narrative and co-director Jeff Ross primarily focused on gameplay.

Without Ross’s return and involvement, Garvin will not consider reviving the franchise even if Sony wishes to. Both directors have their areas of expertise and the end product of the 2019 zombie game is the perfect showcase of their talents.

Unfortunately, Days Gone will not be getting a continuation, especially with the ending hinting at a much larger story that could have played out and Sony’s commitment to multiplayer games clashed with the original ideas of its developers.

The Fans Want Days Gone 2, Not Whatever Sony Is Forcing Bend Studio To Make

Bend Studio is currently working on a brand-new IP that is most likely a multiplayer game and will integrate concepts planned for a Days Gone sequel.

There is a massive online community that continues to play the game 5 years after its release and the current view that players have toward the franchise has been extremely positive. Perhaps if Sony gave Bend a second chance to perfect its vision, Days Gone 2 could have been the greatest zombie horror survival game.

Deacon St. John may not be viewed in the same league of respect as other PlayStation icons like Kratos, Joel, Nathan, or Aloy but the unfair treatment did give the franchise its fair share of the spotlight, the developers only wish for it to be seen in a much more positive light.

Sony’s divided focus has significantly harmed its portfolio but managed to find success in an unlikely game through Helldivers 2 while also being able to release great single-player experiences like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it only begs the question: why can’t PlayStation greenlit Days Gone 2? PlayStation is going down a very diverse and tricky path that could ultimately lead to its downfall.

John Garvin being disappointed over how Sony treated his work is quite an understatement, especially with the shift in tone from the gaming community that loved Days Gone with all its flaws and still considers it a great game. Unfortunately, PlayStation could not view the game the same way but a closed door often leads to another, perhaps Bend’s newest IP could bloom where Days Gone couldn’t.
