St. Johns County and the City of St. Augustine issue mandatory evacuations orders for Wednesday

St. Johns County and the City of St. Augustine have issued mandatory evacuations in light of Hurricane Milton.

Because of the imminent threat posed by Milton, St. Johns County issued a mandatory evacuation order for all residents and visitors in Evacuation Zone A (along coastal and river areas), Zone B, and Zone F (South of State Road 206) effective at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

This includes the entire City of St. Augustine, the City of St. Augustine Beach and residents living on waterfront properties or in flood-prone areas. Residents living in boats, RVs, mobile homes and low-lying flood-prone areas are also required to evacuate.

Residents in these evacuation zones who do not intend to use a St. Johns County storm shelter should leave as soon as possible to avoid unexpected traffic delays.

Evacuation Zones:

City of St. Augustine (On the mainland): North on U.S. 1, turn West onto SR-16 or proceed southwest on SR-207 or south on U.S. 1, proceed to I-95 or points west.

City of St. Augustine (Davis Shores, Anastasia Island South to St. Augustine Alligator Farm): SR-A1A, proceed west across Bridge of Lions to U.S. 1 North or U.S. 1 South or to SR-16, or SR-207 to I-95 or points west.

City of St. Augustine and Anastasia Island North of the St. Augustine Amphitheater: Proceed north on SR-A1A across the Bridge of Lions, then west.

City of St. Augustine and Anastasia Island South of the St. Augustine Amphitheater: Proceed south on SR-A1A, turn west on SR-312, proceed across 312 Bridge to SR-207, proceed to I-95 or points west.

City of St. Augustine Beach: North to SR-312, proceed across 312 Bridge to SR-207, proceed to I-95 or points West.

From the intersection of Ocean Trace Rd. and A1A to Crescent Beach: South on SR-A1A to Crescent Beach, turn west on SR-206, proceed across Crescent Beach Bridge to U.S. 1, proceed to I-95 or points west.

Storm Shelters Opening

The following storm shelters will open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday:

Special Medical Needs: Freedom Crossing Academy, 1365 Shetland Drive, St. Johns

**** Friendly: South Woods Elementary School, 4750 State Road 206 West, Elkton

General Population: Pedro Menendez High School, 600 State Road 206 West, St. Augustine

Residents seeking the safety of shelters are required to bring their own supplies to maintain personal comfort, including bedding, sleeping bags, air mattresses, pillows, sheets and blankets. Other suggestions include:

A five-day supply of water.

Nonperishable food items.

Diapers.

At least a five-day supply of medications, insulin, and a cooler if you are diabetic.

Personal grooming and hygiene items, feminine supplies.

Extra clothing, eyeglasses.

Books, magazines, cards, games, etc.

Personal items of comfort.

Pillows, blankets, sheets, lawn chair/chaise lounge.

Flashlight and extra batteries, manual can opener.

Personal identification/important papers.

Residents needing transportation to a storm shelter can call the Emergency Management Citizen Information Hotline at 904-824-5550. Transportation will be provided for those in need.

St. Johns County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for all healthcare facilities located in Evacuation Zones A, B, and F (South of State Road 206), effective 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 8. Healthcare facilities are being asked to facilitate the coordination of logistics and transportation to ensure that their patients and residents continue to receive care.

The City of St. Augustine

The City of St. Augustine’s administrative offices and operations facilities will be closed to the public Wednesday and Thursday. The city is planning to reopen for regularly scheduled business hours on Friday.

The St. Augustine Municipal Marina’s mooring field north of the Bridge of Lions is closed. Marina boat services and daily operations are suspended until Friday.  Pending damages to the marina incurred by Hurricane Milton, services may be delayed indefinitely.

St. Johns County has issued an evacuation order for the City of St. Augustine beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Emergency shelters will open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
