Hancock Prospecting scales back iron ore tonnes in new Mulga Downs mine plan

Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting has scaled back the proposed output and size of Pilbara iron ore mine Mulga Downs in a bid to appease concerns raised by WA’s Environmental Protection Authority.

Plans published on the authority’s website last week show the mining billionaire — also Australia’s richest person — had reduced the disturbance footprint of the proposed operation by 48.5 per cent to 4339.16ha and will slash iron ore processing rates from 20 million tonnes a year to just 12mtpa.
