The Minneapolis Police Department said its officers responded to the

at the intersection of 33rd Avenue North and Russell Avenue North just after 7:50 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers then found the boy suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to the hospital.

Investigators believe the boy was riding a skateboard when he was struck by a vehicle.

That vehicle reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police say no arrests have been made related to the incident.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara released the following statement after the incident:

“My sympathies go out to all those whose lives have been affected by recent hit and run crashes. Our investigators continue to work to determine what happened and find whoever is responsible for this ******. I should not have to be reminding anyone of this, but if you are involved in a ******, state law requires you to remain at the scene. There is no good that can come from leaving the scene of a traffic ****** for anyone involved. I would also like to remind drivers that when you are driving in neighborhoods, slow down, and pay extra attention for children who may be playing.
