Augusta extending curfew following Helene. What else to know about recovery efforts

During the Day 7 press conference Thursday regarding post-Hurricane Helene recovery efforts, Augusta leaders had three key points for residents around storm clean-up.

Here’s what to know.

Curfew is now at 10 p.m.

Effective immediately, the curfew has been extended from 7 to 10 p.m.

Mayor Garnett Johnson said they felt comfortable doing due to the increased amount of electricity and working traffic signals. However, he said, the curfew is still being kept in place out of an abundance of safety.

Boil Water Advisory still in effect

It’s now been four days since the boil advisory went into effect and Augustans will have to wait a bit longer. Johnson said if the state approves all of the testing they have been doing, he is hoping they can remove the advisory within 24 to 36 hours, but there is no official timetable right now.

Pile debris at the curb

Residents were reminded again to not bring their yard debris to the landfill or try to throw it away, just pile it up along the curb. Residents were also reminded to not ***** their yard waste as it creates a ***** hazard and is bad for the air quality.

Landfill fees have been waived for food waste.

, a local firm, has been part of the debris removal process. ISM Principal Steve Cassell explained that they’ve had 20 crews since Friday with some major ramping up coming soon. He estimates it will take two months to complete the clean up.
