Man’s Rare Up-Close Encounter with Moose in Maine Ends with Terrifying Charge

Nature is so cool…until it gets too close. Then it’s really, really scary. Video of a moose getting a little too close for comfort with a man walking in the woods in Maine recently has gone viral for this exact reason. And the man had every reason to be spooked. The end of the clip will give us nightmares for days to come.

The clip from The Daily Mail shows the whole terrifying interaction between the man and the moose.

We can’t even imagine being so close to a moose in the wild. In the footage the news outlet shared, it shows the

But there was something about the animal’s face that seemed like he wasn’t taking the warning seriously. Again, the man pleaded with the animal to leave him alone. But then something truly terrifying happened; the moose charged into him and the video cut off before we can see if he’s okay.

“He says he was ‘extremely lucky to escape with only a few bumps and bruises,'” the video’s caption states.

The whole thing is just so scary. Commenters online were shocked. “Nah that side eyeing is crazy,” one person commented. “He’s like ‘I ain’t your buddy,'” another commenter chimed in. “The moose: ‘You get out of here, this is my home,'” one person joked. “Nah he’s telling YOU ‘that’s close enough or you might find out,'” someone else noted.

What to Do in a Moose *******

Coming face-to-face with a moose can be frightening. And if you don’t live in an area where moose tend to frequent it can be hard to know what to do.

than bears every year, so it’s important to know some basic moose facts.

Moose will often flee when facing a human, but they have been known to get aggressive. Sometimes moose will charge you as “bluff” warnings, or charges that are meant to warn you to back off and stay away. If a moose does charge at you, you should run away because they can’t chase you very far. You can also get behind something large, like a tree. Moose are slow and can’t move that fast.

However, moose can really hurt you. If a moose knocks you over curl into a ball and protect your head with your hands. Keep still. Once the moose has left you alone you can get up and find help, but make sure it’s a great distance away before doing so. You don’t want to come off as a threat.

Of course, this can be avoided by not going into woods or areas where moose are known to hang out. If you do come close to one, try and give them space. You’re in their home after all!
