Shattered Space Does More Than An Average DLC, Or So Fans Think Defending Todd Howard’s Latest ********

Bethesda’s Starfield has been a subject of controversy since its release, and its new DLC, Shattered Space, has gotten even more polarized opinions. While many fans praise the addition of new quests, characters, and locations, others express frustration over unmet expectations.

Some fans argue that the criticisms are overblown, while others feel that the expansion fails to live up to its $30 price tag. Despite the backlash, some fans are defending the expansion, pointing out the good parts. So are people just expecting too much out of Bethesda? Not quite.

Starfield‘s DLC Could Not Have Gotten More Polarized Reactions

The Shattered Space DLC has divided Starfield players into two camps. On one side, some players appreciate the expansion’s new content, including the quests, the new planet, and even the long-awaited introduction of ground vehicles.

For them, the additional content is a natural extension of what Starfield set out to achieve, rather than a reinvention of the wheel. But the other side of the discussion highlights the issues with Shattered Space.

Other fans have pointed out that the DLC falls short of expectations, especially given its $30 price tag. They point out the lack of meaningful additions, such as new weapons or unique factions.

Many fans had hoped the DLC would address some of the shortcomings of the base game, which was criticized for its repetitive missions and underdeveloped story arcs.

The people who like the DLC noted that the criticisms against it often come from unrealistic expectations, including those who anticipated a “Skyrim in space.”

According to them, many players still struggle with the fact that Starfield is not designed to replicate the magic of Skyrim or Fallout.

How Much Can You Temper Expectations When It Costs $30

For $30, players expected more than just 10 hours of content and a handful of cosmetic additions. Reviewers on Steam note that the expansion didn’t provide enough new gameplay to justify the cost.

As some fans see it, a handful of quests and a new planet aren’t enough to justify paying half the price of the base game. There’s also discontent about the performance issues that continue to plague the game, particularly on PC. And some bugs have remained unresolved since the original release.

Beyond price and content, the quality of the story is also being called out. The DLC introduces new storylines involving cultists worshipping a cosmic serpent, but it ultimately fails to live up to the depth expected from Bethesda’s RPGs.

Despite this, some fans continue to defend Bethesda’s creative direction. For them, Starfield is not meant to be a rehash of the studio’s previous hits like Skyrim or Fallout. Instead, it’s a unique experience that requires players to adjust their expectations.
