With the expansion taking place in a completely new land, it was expected that FromSoftware would feature several new enemies. The Furnace Golem is one of the most imposing foes you will come across in the Land of Shadow. You can spot one from a mile away, and they can aggro on you before you get close enough to deal any real damage. Taking them down is no easy feat, but these Furnace Golem tips should help you snuff their meager flames. What Are Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==The Furnace Golems are intimidating and have the firepower to backup their appearance. The Land of Shadow is one marred by war, and remnants of the conflicts can be seen in every aspect of the region. From the graveyards to the castles and even the open fields, Messmer’s army continues to make their presence known through force and *****. Few things can strike the same ******* into enemies’ hearts as a walking, flaming titan, and Elden Ring’s Furnace Golems work as intended. These Golems were Messmer’s battle units as he was purging the Land of Shadow of the Hornsent. They appear to be based on wicker men from ancient history, which were used as ******** devices into which people were placed and then set ablaze. It is also very likely a reference to the late Kentaro Miura’s magnum opus, Berserk, and one of the new ****** types similar to how players will encounter new threats in Starfield Shattered Space. Messmer very clearly understood psychological warfare. Higher up on the Golem’s legs, around the knees, are effigies that bear striking resemblance to the ***** Giants. These titans were a feared group among the Hornsent, and the mind games didn’t stop there. The visage of the Golem bears a resemblance to the Eye of the Fell **** and also sports the curled horns the Hornsent consider sacred. Not all of the Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree are active, and looking into the wicker basket, one can understand the source of their flames. There is the body of a drake or a dragon resting in their furnace, and this appears to be what fuels their flames. Tip This might explain why the inside of the basket is one of the main weak points and can take great damage. Players will spot their first Golem when they turn left from the very first site of grace and head towards the Scorched Ruins. You can see the Golem from much further away, but the Ruins give you a safer vantage point from where to observe this entity. While it appears to be walking about peacefully, that will quickly change when the player approaches it. How to Prepare for a ****** With the Furnace Golem? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==The Furnace Golem has a much larger aggro radius compared to other enemies. These things have a lot of health, and you’ll quickly find that out after your first strike. Even a fully upgraded ******* will cut down a barely noticeable slice of their health bar, and that’s a testament to their durability. If you plan on fighting one until you whittle down their health, you’ll be going up against this Shadow of the Erdtree field boss for a long time. Even after you’ve taken one down, don’t forget, there are several hidden throughout the lands, just as there are many missions hidden across the lands in Shattered Space. When riding into battle with these flaming nightmares, your goal should be to deal as much stance damage as possible. Doing so will create an ******* window where the Golem falls over, allowing you to land a critical strike. Not all Golems can be taken down with this method though, and for the second variant, you will need to craft Hefty Furnace Pots, Hefty ***** Pots, ***** Posts, or Volcano Pots. Tip You’ll know which Shadow of the Erdtree Furnace Golem can be toppled by checking to see if their legs are armored or not. Your choice of Talismans, Armor, and Physick ingredients will depend on the type of battle you wish to take on. If you want to deal the most damage, you should choose Talismans like the Two-Handed Sword Talisman, Winged Sword Insignia, Dagger Talisman, and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia. For damage negation, choose the Flamedrake Talisman +3 and any other defensive talismans you wish. In your Wondrous Physick, have the Stonebarb Cracked Tear as one of the two ingredients, as your attacks will create a stance break more frequently. The second tear choice could be something to boost your primary stat, such as Strength or Dexterity, increase your stamina capabilities, or the Opaline Bubble Tear to reduce the damage of one *******. For Ash of War, consider going for the Cragblade or Savage Lion’s Claw, as both can do incredible amounts of stance damage. These two Ashes, combined with the Stonebard Cracked Tear, will induce stance breaks faster, but this isn’t going to make the ****** a walk in the park. How to Defeat Furnace Golem in Shadow of the Erdtree? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==Slashing at the feet will be your go-to method to break this Shadow of the Erdtree ******’s stance. Now that you’re kitted out, it’s time to bring the heat to Furnace Golems across the Land of Shadow. Whether you’re running a melee build, a mage, or something in between, the strategy for this ****** is the same. This ******** true for both types of Golems, those with armored legs and the regular variants. For the Furnace Golems without armor on their legs, the goal is to keep striking their legs to break their stance. However, unlike other enemies, you need to stance-break them thrice before they go down on their knees. Once they are down, you can make your way to the Furnace Visage where you’ll see the glowing embers indicating a critical hit opportunity. Tip The Golem will stay down for a good few seconds, so you can land some of your strongest attacks on the face before taking the critical hit. This will maximize your damage. For the variant with the armored legs, you will need to make use of the pots you crafted. Close to where these Golems roam, you’ll spot a Spirit Spring that can be used to get to an area placing you above the Golem. Once you are in place, the Golem is below you; equip your jars and start to chuck them below. It will take 5–6 Hefty Furnace Pots to take out a single Golem. The Companion Jar talisman will help to increase the damage of your thrown pots. Both variants of Golems have similar attacks, but you’ll see more diversity with the regular variant compared to the armored leg variant. Many of these attacks are clearly telegraphed, but it can be a bit difficult to notice as the camera angles in FromSoftware games for large enemies are always a little wonky. Using Torrent might seem useful for this Shadow of the Erdtree field boss, but you may find it easier to manage stamina and land attacks when on foot rather than using Torrent. Leg Stomp: This is one of the most common attacks, where the Golem will raise its leg and then stomp down, releasing a wave of ***** on the ground. Sometimes, it will do repeated stomps, up to three times. These are easy to evade, get a bit of distance from the raised leg, and jump just as it lands to avoid the ***** surge. Dual Leg Stomp: The Golem will lift off into the air and then come crashing down. This stomp includes a sizable AoE **********, so the moment you see it lift into the air, either start sprinting away immediately or call on Torrent. It will also send out a wave of ***** that goes much further than the ********** effect, so make sure to jump. Punch and Swipe: The Golem will kneel and either punch down into the ground and create a small burning area or swipe its arm in front of itself. When you see it go down on one knee, walk between its legs, and continue to ******* the legs. Grab: This is one of the rarer attacks, but it does happen. It will look like an arm swipe, but the Golem will grab you, raise you, and dunk you into its furnace. You may as well get ready for a second attempt the moment it grabs you, as this is instant ****** for most players. Homing ***** Missiles: The Golem will oscillate in place and then release a barrage of fireballs that seek out the player. Running away is the only strategy to avoid this *******. Flame Kick: The Golem will use this projectile ******* when you are closing in on it. It will kick the ground and send a silo of flaming rocks at you that can deal massive damage. Get on torrent and run in an arc around the ******* to avoid most of the damage. ***** Spin: If you are at a distance from the Golem or there is a barrier between the two of you, it will lean forward and project its flame in a vortex. This has a very long range, as the Golem in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh can have it reach you from across two massive bridges! Keep these attacks in mind, and you should be able to avoid them in time. Defeating these Furnace Golems in Shadow of the Erdtree may seem like a chore, but along with a hefty sum of runes, you will also get unique Tears to be added to your Physick. These alone make them worth your time to take down! Which bosses have you found to be the most difficult in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
