The Duel Choices and Who to Tranquilize

Starfield’s Shattered Space has been the talk of the town since its release, and players express positive sentiments for the expansion. While it is not going to entirely redeem Bethesda’s title, it has gone a long way in improving how people view it by adding beautiful locations and engaging content. 

Along with a new planet to explore, Bethesda has included several new quests that will send players to almost every corner of the House of Va’ruun home world. During their adventures, they will come across a mission that requires them to choose between two brothers. 

Shattered Space Shows Humanity Has Not Advanced Beyond Sibling Animosity

Find these three siblings speaking next to the tall monument in the courtyard.

Bethesda games have always allowed players to organically stumble upon events that result in some of the best quests in the entire game. The studio has implemented the same systems in Starfield, as players are able to receive distress calls and witness events where they can interject to affect the outcome. That’s how The Duel side quest can progress, but there are some key aspects to keep in mind. 

The side mission can be encountered very early on in Shattered Space when exploring the main courtyard of the city of Dazra on Va’ruun’kai. You can find this planet soon after completing your mission aboard the Oracle, and there is a lot to do when you land. As you walk through the main courtyard, you’ll hear some heated words being exchanged between three people. 

Soon you’ll realize that the three are siblings, and one of them has committed a massive blunder. Amila, one of the brothers, has disrespected their mother’s urn, which has led Borhal to demand a duel to restore their maternal figure’s honor. Danika, the sister, is trying to mediate the situation unsuccessfully, and you will be working with her to find a resolution. 

What Can You Do to Stop The Duel in Shattered Space?

Danika’s plan is to get both of them too ***** to ******, but the choice is ultimately yours.

As you build your character, you may want to invest a couple of points into Persuasion. This is a great skill to have, as it can help you escape some pretty sticky situations. However, no matter how much you’ve leveled Persuasion, and even if you have some Neoramps on your character, it is impossible to stop these brothers from getting at each other’s throats. 

But Danika still wants to try to broker peace between the two, and it’s not entirely impossible. First, you want to start by visiting both brothers and exhausting all of their dialogue options.

While there is no way to talk them out of this situation, it does give you a better understanding of this Shattered Space side quest. With Amila refusing to apologize and Borhal stating he wouldn’t even accept an apology, it’s up to you to find an alternate approach. 

Tip

You may not be able to Persuade the brothers to change their minds, but trying to do so does help increase the level of your skill and get you closer to a level up.

After speaking with the brothers, you need to come back to Danika, who will suggest a new plan to ensure she does not lose one of her brothers due to their egos. 

Which Among The Duel Choices Should You Take for the Best Outcome?

You have two cups and choices in front of you to end this mission.

With both brothers adamant about going through with the duel, the only way to stop them from hurting each other is to take them out of the equation. For this, Danika creates a plan to tranquilize them and stop the duel from taking place. One of the rituals before such a duel is to share a single drink with your opponent, and Danika wants to take advantage of this tradition. 

She requests you to spike their drinks with a tranquilizer, which will ensure the duel is, at the very least, postponed. You must now head to the quest marker, where you will find two glasses set out on the table.

Danika wants you to sedate both brothers but, as with many other Shattered Space missions, you have four options available to you when you approach the glasses. 

• Tranquilize Both: The desired option for Danika is choosing this method, as it will result in both brothers feeling too out of it to go ahead with the duel. This may feel like just hitting snooze on an alarm, but Danikla is convinced time is all the brothers need to forgive each other. Your reward for doing this is 4,000 Credits and XP. 
• Tranquilize Amila: Going with this option will result in Borhal claiming his brother is faking an illness and executing him on the spot. When he finds out that you and Danika have interfered in the duel, he will be furious at the revelation. Your reward for doing this is 5,000 Credits and XP. 
• Tranquilize Borhal: Amila too won’t care about his brother presenting signs of illness and ****** him. However, he does wonder if this entire situation could have been resolved in another way. Your reward for doing this is 5,000 Credits and XP. 
• Tranquilize Nobody: You’ve left the matter up to fate and the brother with the fastest trigger finger. The two have their drink, and Borhal ends up ******** Amila in combat. Danika is unhappy with this decision and blames you for the ****** of her sibling. Your reward for doing this is 5,000 Credits and XP.

The option you choose is entirely dependent on the kind of character you are playing. You will get an extra 1,000 Credits for sedating only one brother or not sedating them at all. So, if you’re a bit strapped for cash, you can choose one of these options.
