Kevin “Scraps” Burdick completed work on the pedestrian tunnel in downtown Petoskey Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024.

The Petoskey City Council selected Burdick’s mural to go in the tunnel during its Sept. 16 meeting. Before their approval, they asked for minor changes to be made before moving forward. For example, the original design featured koi fish throughout the water, and the council asked that fish be changed to be one native to the region. Petoskey stones were added along the bottom of the mural as well.

Additionally, the council asked Burdick to incorporate the piano that’s found its home in the tunnel into the mural. The total cost for his part of the project was $21,750.
