Under the expert guidance of winemaker Rob Diletti, this unassuming vineyard is crafting wines of exceptional quality that are turning heads in the industry. The current releases from Castle Rock are a testament to the unique terroir of the region, boasting a pristine character, mineral complexity and exquisite precision that seem to capture the very essence of the granite hillsides where the grapes are cultivated. This is a remarkably consistent wine and one I’ve been cellaring for many vintages. Given the challenging and warm 2024 vintage, winemaker, Rob Diletti, has weaved his magic once again producing a shiny-bright, zesty-fresh, thirst quenching riesling with all the hallmarks of the Estate. There’s notably, an attractive floral and citrus aromatic lift and mineral-slatey textures. With a few minutes opening up in the glass, lemon balm, grapefruit, lilies and subtle stem ginger flavours emerge. As always, the nebulous term ‘minerally’ springs to mind. Licking rocks, sucking on pebbles — choose your own phrase or simply revel in this citrusy, minerally delight. 95/100 Premium Subscribers with digital access can view this article.
