Moments after the ************** attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, Greg Smith told the BBC he had seen the gunman on the roof of a nearby building and tried alerting police.

BBC North America Correspondent Gary O’Donoghue returned to Butler to speak to Smith about that day in July.

Smith remembers thinking in bewilderment and frustration: “Why isn’t someone doing something?”
