Hornell police chase ends with officer injured, Elmira Heights woman facing charges

A Hornell police officer was injured in a ****** during a seven-minute pursuit through the area Thursday, resulting in several charges against an Elmira Heights woman.

The pursuit started shortly after 11 a.m. in the Hornell McDonalds parking lot on state Route 36. The chase ended on Route 21 near Old Almond Road when the suspect’s vehicle collided with the police vehicle, according to the Hornell Police Department.

A Hornell officer who was injured in the ****** was treated at St. James Hospital and later released.

Heather L. Johnson, 32, of Elmira Heights was arrested and charged with second-degree ********, second-degree reckless endangerment, and third-degree ********* possession of a *******. Johnson was also issued 19 traffic tickets. Further charges are pending, police said.

Johnson was transported to Steuben County Court for arraignment.

The Hornell ***** Department, New York State Police, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and North Hornell Police Department also assisted the scene of the ******.
