Starfield Shattered Space: How To Find Vaeric

Shattered Space takes the player to the planet of Va’ruun’kai, the homeworld of one of the major religions in the game. Given the Serpent’s Embrace has such a shadowy reputation across the galaxies, there are several mysteries on the planet from where the belief originates, and many are sure to baffle the player.

One of these adventures will require the player to ultimately join the cult, a decision that they may not have taken at the start of the game. This pact must be made to continue their adventures on this world and interact with people who they must find, such as Vaeric!

Shattered Space Main Missions Require you to Track Down Royalty

Shattered Space will introduce the player to a number of new, important characters.

Well, maybe not exactly royalty, but Vaeric is still a very important member of the House of Veth’aal, and he’s gone missing. This is not a new type of mission for Bethesda titles, as finding and rescuing allies has always been present in all of their games. However, this particular quest is directly tied to the main story of the Starfield DLC and can be a little tricky if you don’t know where to look.

This objective will be added to your mission control once you complete The Promised, Broken mission in Shattered Space. With your new title established, based on which effigies you chose to place on the altar, you must choose which of the three sub-houses within House Va’ruun you wish to aid. This is an important step to gain access to the Scaled Citadel, and if you wish to help the House of Veth’aal, you need to go to The Keep within Va’ruun’kai.

On reaching this location, you get to speak with Viktor, the head of the house, who will inform you that his son has gone AWOL. Having renounced his claim to the House, Vaeric is now deemed a traitor and must be punished for his transgression. Thus begins your quest to find this errant son on the planet and win the favor of the House of Veth’aal in Shattered Space.

Where To Start Your Search for Vaeric?

Find the tavern to get your first clues on Vaeric’s whereabouts.

Once you have been briefed by Viktor and had your share of exploring The Keep, leave the stronghold and make your way to Herald’s Rest. As with many other games, a tavern is your best bet for finding information, and this watering ***** is no different. Vaeric was known to frequent this pub, and here you will find three people to speak with to learn more about him.

Bianca Latif is an old friend of Vaeric, and you will find her against a railing within the tavern. While she will be reluctant to spill any information regarding Vaeric, players who have leveled their Persuasion skill will be able to convince her to divulge where Vaeric has fled. You can use your Persuasion skill on all three NPCs at the bar, but don’t be worried if you haven’t been investing in the skill.

Tip

If you don’t have enough investment in Persuasion, a Neuroamp can help turn some conversations in your favor.

The last NPC you will speak to will say they have a friend, Tane, who will have more info for you, and this new character will be arriving at the bar soon. You can spot him with the tattoos on his neck, and you’ll soon find out he’s not even part of the House of Va’ruun. After some talking, you will be prompted to pay 1,000 Credits for information regarding Vaeric.

Once you’ve padded his pockets, Tane will reveal that he’s slipped Vaeric a tracker, and he states he will meet you outside of the city of Dazra to continue your search for Viktor’s son. Once the dialogue has completed, go to the western wall of the city and then head outside to find Tane.

How to Find Vaeric in Shattered Space?

Tane is a new temporary companion the player can use in Shattered Space.

For all the technological advancements humanity has enjoyed in Starfield, Tane’s tracker is fairly rudimentary. It indicates your distance to the targets with a series of beeps, similar to metal detectors. If you’re facing in the right direction of the target, the beeping gets faster, so your job is to keep the highest tempo to find Vaeric.

Following this method will bring you to the Abandoned Camp, found to the northwest of the city. Vaeric isn’t here, but he has left a series of clues to be searched to get a better understanding of his next location. The first is the very tracker that led you here, so Vaeric is aware he is being chased. The next is the Vortex Spawn found on the left of the bed. There are also some blood stains on the rock to the right of the bed.

Tip

If you chose the Bounty Hunter origin when creating your character, there will also be some footprints near the Vortex Spawn site.

Continue Tracking Vaeric with Tane the Old Fashioned Way

Shattered Space will show you the many sides of Va’ruun’kai.

After completing your detective work, you and Tane will be ambushed by Foul Vortex Horrors. It’s a new kind of ****** in Shattered Space, so make sure you have some strong mods on your weapons to deal with them. There are three to be *******, and they can use both teleportation and aggressive melee attacks to take you down.

Once you have dealt with the threat, speak with Tane and let him know what you found at the camp. With Vaeric having abandoned the tracker, you will now need to follow in his footsteps, quite literally, to find his next location. Follow the marker until you reach a farm, where you can speak with an NPC and convince them of your knowledge of Vaeric’s passing through the location.

The NPC will reveal that an injured Vaeric did visit the farm, but that the NPC helped heal him and then sent him on his way a week ago. The NPC will then point you in the general direction of Vaeric’s departure, and following the marker will bring you to another farmhouse, one which you can enter.

Inside you will find a log created by Vaeric and his computer in the back room. Once you leave the structure and speak with Tane, Vaeric himself will appear in front of you, who has been living on the farm.

What Decision to Take After Finding Vaeric?

Your choice will determine Vaeric’s fate, but he won’t go out without a ******.

In true Bethesda fashion, not everything is ****** and white. Despite having found the runaway, you have a choice to either take him out as Viktor wanted or to listen to Vaeric’s side of the store. If you want to honor his father’s wishes, keep choosing the dialogue options that indicate his inevitable fate as a corpse. But if you choose to listen to him, you may be surprised at the outcome.

Vaeric didn’t want to get involved in the politics of the House and wished to create his own path in life. While he is aware of the grave mistake he has committed and the awkward position he’s placed his father in, he is adamant about not wanting to be the successor for House Veth’aal.

You now have three choices ahead of you:

• Encourage Valeric to return home
• Let him go, but take his ring as proof to show his father of his ******. If you’re hurting for cash, you can also demand 10,000 Credits, making up for the fee you paid to Tane
• ***** him and take the ring

The second option would be the most appealing to most players, as everyone goes their way and you also get richer by a hefty sum of Credits. Whichever option you choose, the player will have to return to Viktor with his son or with the ring to complete the mission and get the power grid codes to continue helping other factions on the planet.
