Peugeot has finally revealed an all-electric version of its adventurously styled 408 ‘coupe SUV’, two years after the reveal of the standard car.

“Peugeot Australia is committed to its electrification journey. In addition to our expanding hybrid range, this includes bringing the best range of 100 per cent electric vehicles to the *********** market,” said a spokesperson for the company.

“As such, the E-408 forms part of our consideration for future product in the local market.”

The Peugeot E-408 is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 157kW of power and 345Nm of torque.

This is fed by a 58.2kWh nickel metal cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion battery pack that allows for a driving range of 453km according to WLTP testing. Average energy consumption is claimed to be a relatively efficient 15.2kWh/100km.

The maximum AC charging rate is 11kW, whereas the maximum DC charging rate is 120kW. The latter allows for a 20 to 80 per cent charge in “just over 30 minutes”.

There are three drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport – as well as three regenerative braking modes that can be selected with the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Globally, the E-408 is offered in two trim levels – Allure and GT. Five exterior colours are offered across the range.

In Europe, the E-408 Allure comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED ***********, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected satellite navigation, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, six-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, heated steering wheel, heated driver’s seat and heat pump.

The GT adds matrix LED ***********, front parking sensors, power tailgate with hands-free function, aluminium interior trims, eight-colour interior ambient lighting and other features.

Standard safety equipment across the range includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keeping assist, driver attention monitoring, ******-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The regular Peugeot 408 continues to be offered globally with two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, as well as a mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain.

To date only the PHEV version of the 408 has been offered locally, but it’s getting the axe and only limited stock ******** available.
