The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning for people in the lower South West, Great Southern and the upper Great Southern at 4.27am on Thursday “A deep low-pressure system with an associated trough located to the south of the State will continue to track eastwards towards the southeast of the state during today,” the BoM stated. “Possible damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely along the coastal fringe. “Damaging wind gusts of around 90 km/h are possible further inland over the remaining warning area until early afternoon. “This system is expected to be windier than typical and unusual for this time of year.” Places that may be affected include Albany, Esperance, Katanning, Merredin, Mount Barker, Narrogin and Norseman. Emergency WA is urging people to act now to stay safe: Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around your home that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds.Prepare an emergency kit with a radio that runs off batteries, a torch, spare batteries and a first aid kit. Damaging surf conditions that could cause significant beach erosion are expected for the remainder of Thursday.
