Lovett Muay Thai’s State titleholder Shawah Jin books WBC belt bout at Super Series

Young Albany Muay Thai fighter Shawah Jin is flying up the ranks after his victory in Melbourne in August, earning him a chance to ****** for a State World Boxing Council belt in Perth.

Fighting out of Albany’s Lovett Muay Thai gym, Jin is the International Sport Kickboxing Association State title holder and put together one of the fights of his life, unanimously defeating Melbourne opponent Matthew Packer in his Roots undercard in Melbourne on August 31.

The victory means Jin will now ****** against Perth’s Reece Corrigan for the WBC Muay Thai State super featherweight title at the Muay Thai Super Series in Perth on October 12.

Reflecting on his enormous victory in Melbourne, the 20-year-old said the victory was a brilliant reward for the gym after countless training hours.

“It was pretty good. We did what we’ve been doing in the gym, like we train hard,” Jin said.

“We knew it was going to be a good, hard ****** and we prepared for it.

“We stuck to what we did in training and got a clear win and I made a few friends and new fans out there so it’s pretty good.”

A ******** from Thailand, Jin prides himself on his dedication and willingness to “outwork” his opponents.

“My strength would be probably just the willpower,” he said.

“I don’t really like care how good you are, how skilful you are or how tough you are, I’m just willing to outwork anyone in the ring.

“I’ve got the same goals, just with better intentions because we’ve got a WBC State title coming up so another big ****** for us, for Albany.

“It’s a big thing for us in the Muay Thai community so really looking forward to it.

“My next opponent (Corrigan) is a little bit taller but it’ll come down to heart and I think I’ve got the heart to go toe-to-toe with him.”

Jin will be joined by fellow Lovett Muay Thai fighters Lilly O’Donnell and Tyreice Fernando at the event in Perth next weekend.

O’Donnell will be making a debut in the ring fighting the undercard while Fernando will be fighting his first professional ****** on the main card.

Lovett Muay Thai owner and coach Rob Lovett was thrilled to have three fighters represent the gym on the national stage and declared he was not surprised with their achievements.

“This is something that we’ve been building up towards for for a long time so this is no coincidence,” Lovett said.

“There’s been a lot of hard work that’s gone to this but it’s very reaffirming and also massively rewarding to be able to achieve this within the gym.

“To see our young fighters really reach a high calibre and really reach their ambitions and surpass their ambitions — that’s probably the most rewarding part.”
