It was revealed on social platforms by Shigeru Miyamoto that a new Super Mario Bros. movie will be released on April 3, 2026, expanding on the billion-dollar success of the first movie that was released in April 2023. It was stressed that the movie will broaden Mario’s world, which means it could push beyond the setting of the first movie and see the iconic Nintendo character cross realms. It’s no big secret that there’s plenty of source material to work with. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a smash sensation, netting more than $1 billion at the box office and becoming the highest-earning animated movie in history. It’s still popular today and the subject of much discussion, so much so that Nintendo has decided to reveal a follow-up title is in production.
