Starfield: How to Recruit Heller

In Starfield, you can recruit Heller during the mission called “Back to Vectera.” This mission sends players back to the mining site where they used to work before they joined Constellation. Following a distress signal leads players to Heller, and from there, you can decide to add him to your crew.

Heller is one of the early characters you come across in Starfield, and he comes from Argos Extractors, the mining company where the game starts. Even though he isn’t packed with a ton of different skills compared to other crew members, he’s still useful for players who need extra help at their outposts. 

How to Recruit Heller in Starfield

Heller is grateful that you saved his life.

To recruit Heller, you need to progress through the main story of Starfield. Specifically, you’ll encounter him in the fourth mission of the Constellation storyline called “Back to Vectera.” 

After completing the mission with Sam Coe in Akila City, players will return to Vectera to deal with the fallout caused by the Crimson Fleet. After restoring power at the base, Lin, your old boss, will let you know that Heller has been spotted on a nearby planet called Danra.

Your next step is to travel to Danra and locate the ****** site. When you land and make your way to the area, you’ll find him injured and in need of some serious assistance. 

Heller will ask to join your crew, and you can accept him right away. Once recruited, his skills will be added to your team, and he’ll stay with you throughout your journey, and it’s definitely worth recruiting him.

What Heller Brings to the Crew

Heller’s skills in Starfield are focused on outpost management.

Heller’s skill set isn’t huge, but it’s specialized for resource management and outpost building. He has one level in Geology, which is useful for gathering common resources on planets. 

This makes him valuable for outposts where farming materials are essential. He also has three levels in Outpost Engineering, and this skill significantly boosts the output of resources at your outpost, making it pretty useful.

Tip

Since he lacks combat skills, it’s best to assign him to outpost tasks rather than having him accompany you into fights.

This means players who focus on building and maintaining outposts will find him incredibly helpful in boosting production, if not in other fields.

Although Heller isn’t the strongest character for combat situations, his skills in Geology and Engineering make him great for managing outpost duties. He is especially useful if you’re looking to expand your resources quickly without having to spend too much time on it yourself. 

While Heller doesn’t offer romance options, companion storylines, or strong combat skills, his abilities at outposts make him a reliable crew member for players looking to expand their resources and materials and focus on base building.

Recruiting him during the Back to Vectera mission is a pretty simple process, and from there, he can help you manage outpost duties without much hassle. Having both him and Lin on board does feel good.
