, snakes typically emerge from brumation in March or April and remain active through October, largely because they rely on external heat for warmth.

Officials also recommend those who encounter snakes to do nothing – they can walk around it, do not try to poke it or agitate it. They advise those bitten by a non-venomous snake not to be alarmed, but if bitten by a venomous snake, the best option is to go to the hospital as soon as possible.
