Harley-Davidson recall for damaged voltage regulator harness

is recalling 41,637 motorcycles due to a potential for short-circuiting and increased ****** risk, according to the NHTSA.

According to the notice, a voltage regulator wire may rub on other components near the motorcycle’s engine, wearing down the outer casing and exposing the wire. This can lead to short circuits and a loss of power with little to no warning to the driver, warned NHTSA.

For free, dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the voltage regulator output wire harness and install a secondary retention strap. Recall notification letters were sent on Sept. 23. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson’s number for this recall is 0186.
