Except Ubisoft Will Not Come out of It Alive Like Sony Did

*********’s Creed: Codename Invictus is an upcoming multiplayer installment in the *********’s Creed series. A multiplayer *********’s Creed game indeed sounds exciting but given how *********’s Creed Shadows has been loaded with controversies, it doesn’t sound like a great idea.

Some sources claim that it will be a Fall Guys-like game. It’s no secret that major publishers nowadays are trying to do what’s trending. Sony for example, spent $400 million on Concord and it turned out to be a massive letdown so, maybe Ubisoft is also heading down that path, but in this case, Ubisoft might not be able to afford to lose that much money.

In 2022, Marc-Alexis Cote, Vice President and Executive Producer of *********’s Creed at Ubisoft, talked about *********’s Creed: Codename Invictus, an upcoming multiplayer game in the *********’s Creed series. Cote told

The reasoning behind having a multiplayer initiative as well is I feel *********’s Creed can branch into different channels. We’ve only scratched the surface of what we can do with the Animus with *********’s Creed. We’ve had multiplayer in the past but that was not super accessible – How can we expand upon that to have something that’s more approachable, more mass market and use this knowledge that we’ve had on games like For Honor and Rainbow Six to have a fun experience that leverages the franchise.

that the multiplayer game will be like Fall Guys. It’s basically six rounds of different maps/game modes, with the lowest-scoring players eliminated. We don’t have an official release date as of now but it is expected to release between Ubisoft’s Red and Hexe projects.

On the surface level, this idea seems exciting but it is a gamble for Ubisoft. With so many controversies surrounding *********’s Creed Shadows, this isn’t particularly the right time to spend millions of dollars on a multiplayer *********’s Creed game.

Right now, Ubisoft already has to deal with XDefiant as rumors suggest that the game is underperforming. As a result, Ubisoft is reportedly planning to shut down the game soon. So much money was spent on the development of XDefiant, and now, the game is slowly losing popularity.

Sony also suffered a huge loss this year as they spent $400 million to develop Concord, a first-person hero shooter game. Sony had huge expectations from it as it hoped to expand it into a Star Wars-level franchise, however, Concord was a massive disappointment and due to low sales, the game was shut down on September 6, 2024, two weeks after its launch.
