Thousands of fans line streets of Melbourne for AFL Grand Final Parade

Thousands of fans crowded Melbourne streets to see their favourite players pass by in this year’s AFL Grand Final Parade.

Melbourne was flooded with interstate visitors who made their way to the homeland of AFL for Saturday’s grand final clash.

Two interstate teams, the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans, will battle it out for the 2024 Premiership Cup.

The parade started at Melbourne Park Oval and made it way through the heart of Melbourne’s sporting precinct to Birrarung Marr, past the MCG and finished at the AFL Footy Festival at Yarra Park.

The festival was the place to see players from this year’s grand final teams on the main stage, which featured lots of other entertainment and live music throughout the day.

The AFL grand final kicks off at 2.30pm AEST and will be the first non-Victorian grand final since 2006.

It’s been 21 years since the Brisbane Lions have won a flag after they missed out on the premiership last year to Collingwood.

The Swans last won a flag in 2012. The club has won five grand finals and lost 12.
