Ports-to-Plains Corridor, I-27 expansion sees new milestone in Lubbock

Another milestone in the highly anticipated Ports-to-Plains Corridor project was met on Thursday, according to a news release.

On Thursday, the Texas Transportation Commission approved the 4.2-mile expansion of a new part of Interstate 27, between Lubbock and Lamesa. This is part of the High Priority Corridor 38, also known at the Ports to Plains Corridor.

This expansion will “run concurrently with U.S. Highway 87 from the current I-27 terminus in Lubbock to 0.1 mile north of County Road 7500,” according to the release. The commission determined that this would improve traffic flow and public safety.

“This is a day the Ports-to-Plains Alliance has long awaited,” said Lauren Garduno, President and CEO of the Ports-to-Plains Alliance. “Thanks to the collaborative efforts of TxDOT, the Texas State Legislature, and Congress, we have reached this important milestone.”

Signs will soon be installed, and the Texas Implementation Plan will continue.
