“The decision to end our twelve-year journey is an emotional one. Together with our partners at The Simpsons and The Walt Disney Company, we have delighted to bring this game to you, the fans, and seeing how you’ve each built your own beloved versions of Springfield.

“It has been a remarkable journey, and we are grateful that we’ve been able to deliver 308 updates, 831 characters and including today’s final farewell 1,463 questlines. As our journey comes to a close, we offer our sincerest thanks to you, the players, who have made this all possible.”

The game, which at several points during its lifecycle was one of the App Store’s highest earners, allowed players to build their own version of Springfield.

Quests and other in-game activities were dictated by a timer, which could be reduced via in-game currency.

Following the success of the game, 20th Century Fox, who owned The Simpsons property at the time, attempted to recreate it with mobile games based on properties like Family Guy, however, none of them have enjoyed the success of Tapped Out.
