Sony’s Recent State of Play Proves PlayStation Needs to Stop Remastering and Take Some Risks Before It Loses Its Domination Over Xbox

Since the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony has increasingly locked itself into a strategy that fans are starting to criticize. Yesterday’s State of Play is yet another example that focusing on remastered games is not the way to satisfy users of this platform.

Despite Xbox’s poor year, the ********* company should stop investing in this type of project and focus on original games like Astro **** to regain players’ trust. Systematically, fans have made their complaints about receiving so many remastered games very visible.

Remasters Should Not Be the Main Path PlayStation Takes

One of the few launch titles for the PlayStation 4 in 2013 was a remaster of a game that had only been out a few months earlier: The Last of Us Remastered. The Last of Us Remastered was the first of many titles that would undergo remastering over the years, as they were not particularly old and could withstand the test of time.

Obviously, all players understand the reason behind this decision, but they are still ***** of seeing these types of games constantly. At the very least, some are still semi-satisfied with Nintendo.

From that moment, Sony began experimenting with these remasters; they never stopped, and they kept appearing again and again. The industry is currently facing a significant challenge due to the scarcity of captivating exclusive releases, and Sony is dedicating significant resources to the ongoing development of remastered versions.

Players are losing ****** in these companies due to their lack of originality and the exhaustion of resources on these projects.

Despite Xbox’s Poor Decisions, Games Like Astro **** Should Be the Company’s Priority

One sign that proved Sony’s strategy wasn’t working was the release of games like Astro ****. This title was incredibly well-received by players, and on social media, people couldn’t stop talking about how necessary this type of project is to revitalize the industry.

In just a few years, games like The Last of Us, Uncharted, and now Horizon Zero Dawn, announced at the State of Play, received a fully remastered version or remakes with the sole objective of selling the same game once again.

Fans are deeply concerned about the lack of variety in new title creation and the limited number of releases each generation. Each new generation sees the launch of fewer and fewer exclusive games. Unlike companies like Nintendo, PlayStation has been unable to release big titles consistently.

All those remaster and remakes could have used resources to create original games, or at least something more than just a tweak of a game that came out several years ago.

The Lack of Ideas is a Dangerously Common Trend in the Industry

With Xbox not launching games this is a wasted opportunity from PlayStation. Image via PlayStation.

Considering that Xbox bought numerous studios but still hasn’t managed to release captivating original games, PlayStation had the opportunity to gain ground but chose a path that players do not approve of.

It has even become a meme before each event, such as the State of Play, to predict which remake or remaster Sony will announce next. As amusing as this is, it clearly demonstrates how people view this company.

Despite Sony’s clarification that they won’t release any major exclusive games this year, the news ******** extremely negative, especially given the limited selection of exclusives the PlayStation 5 currently boasts.

This lack of originality in IPs is one of the things that is paradoxically harming the company. This generation has seen the fewest exclusive titles, and we’re already halfway through its lifecycle.

Playstation Needs to Start Paying Attention to What Its Users Are Saying

Beyond players’ frequent complaints about remasters and remakes, PlayStation should truly pay attention to sales and consider what players want when selecting Sony’s platform.

These types of announcements, as seen in the State of Play, with the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima and the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, don’t generate much excitement in the community. Original IPs and enjoyable games are the way to go.

The real test for PlayStation will be next year when they start announcing games as usual and can release their major titles without having to rely so heavily on these minor announcements.

But if it fails to capture the players’ attention once again, the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro and other projects could result in a massive ******** for the company if they continue down this path. Sony needs to work on changing its image once more.
