Should Marvel be Worried About Wolverine Game After Looking at Square Enix’s Disappointing Results With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

Marvel’s Wolverine is set to expand Earth-1048 as established by Insomniac Games. The fan-favorite mutant has had his fair share of exposure to different projects like movies and comic books and it is time for Logan to take over the video game industry alongside other great heroes like Spider-Man. While there is no doubt that this project will be a success, some fans can’t help but wonder how the game will fare by being tethered to one platform.

While console exclusivity is a great asset in the gaming industry, other games have suffered poor sales because of it. Sony Interactive Entertainment has built a powerful empire through high-quality first-party exclusives; however, some characters, like Marvel heroes, are not theirs to keep, and it would be best to share these games to avoid the same fate Square Enix endured.

Being a PlayStation 5 Exclusive Could Be a Massive ***** in Sales for Marvel’s Wolverine

The game developers of Insomniac Games hit the ground running with a great adventure about Peter Parker and his struggles of becoming Spider-Man in an original universe, and the studio is more than qualified to give Wolverine the same level of attention and care. Unfortunately, the gaming studio became a victim of a massive cyber *******, and highly classified information was stolen and posted online including personnel information and leaked gameplay of early builds. Nevertheless, the studio shared a brief and optimistic update about Marvel’s Wolverine and claims everything is going well and steady progress is being made.

The success of Marvel’s Spider-Man series could reflect on the potential success of this next project; however, there is

because it is tied to only one platform like what happened to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Console exclusivity might have helped the PlayStation brand gain more attention from the gaming community; however, not everyone has a PlayStation 5 and is willing to invest in another console to experience a game that was not Sony to keep in the first place.

Square Enix admitted earlier that the sales of Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth were not as high as the executives had hoped for and this is partially due to being locked on one platform. Although these Final Fantasy games are timed exclusives and will be ported to PC, the game developers are missing out on the numbers in other gaming platforms like the Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

The Marvel brand is the only thing the developers can cling to, and hope it would move units on launch day for the PlayStation 5. There is no doubt that the story of Marvel’s Wolverine will be bad, given the previous outputs of Insomniac Games with Marvel’s Spider-Man games, and the gameplay from leaked videos shows that the studio will embody the character fully without holding back. Some fans wish this game would rival what Raven Software achieved years ago from the movie tie-in video game.

The Poor Sales of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Does Not Reflect the Game’s Quality

Other users from different platforms made their voices heard about the decision to keep major third-party franchises locked to one platform. Parris Lilley says it is ********* for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Square Enix to bar the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy onto PlayStation and PC leaving Xbox users with nothing.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are fantastic video games that deserve to be shared; unfortunately, the executives of Square Enix knew what they were getting into the moment they signed on for the partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. In their eyes, the PlayStation platform may be the best place to release these ambitious projects and might have overlooked the opinions of those outside the ecosystem.

Final Fantasy 16, on the other hand, was ported to PC and there was not much flack about the game because it was ported a little too late. The hype has mellowed and most people have seen what the game has in store from PlayStation 5 walkthroughs. While Marvel’s Wolverine has a better chance of moving units because of the Marvel branding and the recent surge of popularity from other adaptations, the game could benefit from more coverage.

Insomniac Games will do a great job with this game without a doubt; however, a character like Wolverine doesn’t belong to Sony and PlayStation alone. Spider-Man is a different conversation, but Wolverine could benefit from being supported by the Xbox and PC communities.
