ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis police officer is ***** after a car struck him on eastbound I-70 near Grand Boulevard Sunday morning. He was setting flares at an accident scene.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has identified the officer as David Lee.

The injured officer, an 18-year veteran of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, was rushed to an area hospital after the ****** in critical condition. Lee passed away on Sunday afternoon in the presence of family and friends.

The driver remained at the scene and police say they have a suspect in custody. Accident reconstruction teams shut down the highway to collect evidence.
