Consistent onballer adds to flag success with Brierley Medal victory

Railways onballer Trent Reed added to the team’s premiership success this year in the Goldfields Football League by scoring a narrow victory on Friday night to claim the Brierley Medal.

Reed polled 103 votes to secure back-to-back club fairest-and-best awards from Gerald Ugle (102).

Josh Mathers, who was this month crowned the GFL’s best player with his Mitchell Medal success, was third with 89 votes.

Reed, whose career includes a stint with South Fremantle in the WAFL, was among nine players from Railways, along with coach Rhett Pettit, honoured in the GFL’s 2024 team of the year.

Chris Yarran’s big season up forward that yielded 78 goals snared him the leading goal kicker trophy and Joe Kemp won the coaches’ award.

Makua Vlasich was named the Jim Reidy Memorial rookie of the year.

Also on Friday night, Graham ****** and Shandy Edwards were honoured with life memberships, and Marley Kelman led the women’s fairest-and-best count for the Norma French Medal with 164 votes.

Kelman, whose club honour complemented her 2024 league award, edged out Rosalie Gent (136) and Zaleema Bourne (108).

Kelman also tied with Drew Epis for the goal kicking trophy, each with 35 majors, and Courtney Bargiev won the coaches’ award.

In the colts battle for the Colgan Medal, Hayden Kaker secured back-to-back awards with 89 votes from Riley Cook (84) and Maxcello Alex (71).

Other awards in the grade went to Chris Donaldson (leading goal kicker) and Kayne Dellar (coaches’ award).

Jayden Keneally polled 162 votes to secure the Don Jones Medal as reserves fairest-and-best from Dylan Hinchliffe (82) and Brandon Williams (62), with Brendan Ryan (leading goal kicker) and Anthony Babic (coaches’ award) also recognised.

In a big night for the family, Kristy Kelman was named the Bob Kemp Memorial and Alan Hinchliffe club person of the year, and Kody Kelman was honoured with the pride of a panther award.
