Lando Norris wins Singapore Grand Prix, Piastri third

McLaren’s Lando Norris has dominated the Singapore Grand Prix from start to finish to take another chunk out of Max Verstappen’s Formula One championship lead.

The 24-year-old Briton roared away from pole position at the floodlit Marina Bay circuit and led every lap to the chequered flag.

But Verstappen limited the damage by finishing second for Red Bull despite being a massive 20.9 seconds behind, while Oscar Piastri, who started in fifth on the grid, was unable to make it a McLaren one-two as he finished a distant third.

Verstappen’s 59-point lead over Norris was cut to 52 points with six rounds, including three sprints, remaining, while McLaren stretched their lead over Red Bull in the constructors’ standings.

Norris, started on pole position ahead of Verstappen, steadily built a large lead.

There were two brief moments of jeopardy when the McLaren driver first locked his brakes and touched the barriers, prompting concern he’d damaged the front wing, and later when a rear tyre brushed another.

Yet the Briton seemed largely unaffected as he cruised to the win.
