Detective Greg McDougall identified as victim of shocking hit-and-run in Belmont

The family of a veteran detective left seriously injured after he was allegedly run over by a car stopped in a targeted ***** operation say the officer is a “tough ******* guy” and revealed “we think he’s going to be OK”.

Detective Greg McDougall, 46, was allegedly hit and briefly dragged underneath a Toyota HiLux after trying to approach the driver in Belmont on Friday.

On Sunday, police also revealed a search of the car allegedly uncovered 1kg of methamphetamine — worth about $1 million.

Police photographs show the allegedly illicit stash in a Coles bag in the car’s footwell.

Speaking to 7NEWS, brother-in-law Fabian Dawson said Det-Sen. Const. McDougall had 15 broken ribs and a badly broken arm.

It is understood he had surgery on his arm at Royal Perth Hospital on Sunday and was recovering in the intensive care unit.

“It has been very devastating for the family members and extended family members and friends,” Mr Dawson said.

Mr Dawson said the family wanted to thank RPH staff for their outstanding care.

“Greg would also personally like to thank his team, the serious and organised ****** division and the entire WA Police Force,” Mr Dawson said.

“He’s a tough ******* guy and we’ll keep the fingers crossed and keep praying but we think he’s going to be OK.”

Det-Sen. Const. McDougall is also a runner for the Willetton Football Club league team and was planning to attend Sunday’s WAFL grand final before he was injured.

Stoneville man Brenden Ross Green, 37, has been charged with a string of offences over the incident including aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and reckless driving.

In the days since the incident, police ********* raids in Ascot, Stoneville and Woodbridge in Perth’s east.

“At the Ascot location, amounts of methylamphetamine, ********, GHB, MDMA and testosterone have been located,” a police spokesman said.

“Inquiries are continuing with three people who were present at the residence at the time the search warrant was *********.

“At the Stoneville location, amounts of cannabis and methylamphetamine have been located. No one was present at the time the search warrant was *********, and inquiries into the drugs are ongoing.

“At the Woodbridge location, no persons were present at the time the search warrant was *********. A search of the residence is ongoing.”

Earlier, Road Safety Minister David Michael said he was “appalled by what happened”.

WA Police Union president Paul Gale said the police force was reeling after the incident, which brought back traumatic memories of the ****** of Constable Anthony Woods just kilometres away and in similar circumstances last year.

“This is terrible. It brings back thoughts to the terrible, disgusting (alleged) behaviour that caused our officer Anthony Woods’s ******,” he said.

Mr Gale said “wraparound services” were in place to support the injured officer and his family.

“That includes the Commissioner, the chaplaincy, any psychological services that are needed,” he said.

“And of course, any of the officers that are involved in this receive all of those services as well.”

Mr Green was remanded in custody and is next due in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
