Background

More than 700 screenings of the shortlisted films were organised in EU countries for the 2024 edition of the Award, with debates involving more than 70,000 audience members. During the 2025 edition, the Award is complemented by the

to engage young cinema professionals in the promotion of ********* values and the LUX Audience Award project.

Since 2020, citizens across the EU and MEPs have jointly chosen the winner of the LUX Audience Award, presented annually by the ********* Parliament and the ********* Film Academy, in partnership with the ********* Commission and the Europa Cinemas network.

The LUX Audience Award fosters dialogue and engagement between politics and the public through the medium of film. The nominated films address ********* values and raise awareness about some of today’s main social and political issues such as mental health, ********, climate change, freedom of expression, gender equality, LGBTIQ+ rights. During the competition *******, the ********* Parliament provides subtitles in the 24 EU languages and organises free screenings across the 27 Member States for the five nominated films. It will also provide the winning film with subtitles for hearing impaired audiences.
