Waid, who has been involved with both DC and Marvel projects, noted that Gunn brings a “reverential approach” to comic book storytelling. He explained that while Gunn takes the source material seriously, he doesn’t lose sight of its more whimsical elements. “It ain’t Zack Snyder,” Waid further remarked, drawing a distinction between Gunn’s vision and the darker tone of previous DC films.

The upcoming film will feature David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Superman, scheduled for a July 11, 2025 release, will serve as the first entry in the newly rebooted DC Universe, known as Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. This film will not be an origin story but will showcase a variety of DC heroes and villains as part of Gunn’s new direction for the franchise.
