A mission to eventually have mammoth Pilbara iron ore carriers running on so-called clean ammonia has made progress after a world-first fuel transfer was completed in Port Dampier.

The ship-to-ship transfer of 2715 tonnes of ammonia between carrier vessels the Green Pioneer and the Navigator Global off the Pilbara coast has been billed as a “major milestone” in decarbonising the marine industry.
