Space Marine 2 Debuts With Very Positive Reviews on Steam

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has been out for a week and gamers are loving it! The sequel has been getting positive reviews and impressive player engagement since the September 9, 2024 release As a sequel to the beloved 2011 title, it has already gotten very positive reviews on Steam with over 225,000 peak concurrent players.

Saber Interactive has done an amazing job of bringing the 40K universe to life. And in Space Marine 2, you can feel like you’re right there with the characters. But despite this success, Saber needs to plan for the long term so we don’t get another Helldivers 2 situation.

Space Marine 2 Has To Avoid Typical Live Service Game Mistakes

Helldivers 2 came out earlier this year and also started strong with nearly half a million active players at its peak. The game soon began to lose its player base due to a lack of fresh content and some balance changes that fans didn’t like.

Space Marine 2 is a cool success story because when you look at the original population numbers at peak when the first one came out, it’s a huge difference on steam alone.

Space Marine 2 isn’t just a good game, it introduced more people to 40k.

The game has also quickly become one of the top-rated games of the year. It has earned praise for its brutal combat, faithful representation of the Warhammer universe, and co-op gameplay. Steam reviews are at Very Positive and the game has the most players that any Warhammer game has gotten.

That’s not a reason to be complacent though. One of Helldivers 2’s biggest mistakes was the lack of creative updates. Players wanted new enemies and more varied content but Arrowhead Game Studios struggled to meet these expectations, partly due to budget and resource limitations.

Space Marine 2 is now officially the #1 most popular Warhammer game to launch on Steam – ever. Reaching 221k Concurrent Players (and counting).

Congrats to everyone at Saber. Well deserved, the game is a blast.

With Space Marine 2, Saber has already ***** out a DLC roadmap that promises additional content, new modes, and cosmetics through 2025. Let’s hope the devs can deliver on these promises while listening to player feedback.
