The three-time Supercars champion looked set to triumph at Watkins Glen, New York, on Sunday after snatching the lead on a three-wide move following an overtime restart, diving beneath Chris Buescher and Carson Hocevar. He was holding Buescher off on the final lap of the 2.45 mile road course until he clipped the wall in the “Bus Stop” – a critical inner loop on the course – momentarily unsettling his car. Buescher seized his chance and their cars rubbed doors before the ********* regained the lead and went on to victory, denying New Zealander van Gisbergen a second NASCAR victory to follow his street race win in Chicago on debut last season. “I knew Chris was really going to send it and push me if he could get there,” van Gisbergen said after his scond placing. “I turned and got a bit loose and clipped the inside wall. Driver error. I’m gutted we couldn’t get it. I had a lot of fun, but I’m pretty ****** at myself.” The race was the second in the NASCAR playoffs, but neither Buescher, van Gisdergen or the others in the top five finishers are involved in the championship battle. “If we’re going to be blunt about it, not having to think about points at all on the playoff-side of it, or any cutoffs, opened up more opportunities for us today to go out there and get that win,” Buescher said. – with AAP This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up #SVG #driver #error #costly #NASCAR #win #begging This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Link to comment https://hopzone.eu/forums/topic/127093-svg-%E2%80%98driver-error%E2%80%99-costly-as-nascar-win-goes-begging/ Share on other sites
