Liverpool tree tragedy: Woman ******* by falling branch on Castlereagh Street near Westfield

A woman has tragically ***** after being struck by a falling tree branch in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Castlereagh Street in Liverpool at about 1pm on Sunday, where the woman was found injured beneath a large branch.

The busy street, which is filled with apartment buildings, a ******* and medical centres, is just meters away from Westfield Liverpool shopping centre.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, she was pronounced ***** at the scene.

The woman is believed to be in her 60s but has not yet been formally identified.

Strong winds have battered Sydney since Saturday afternoon.

A report will be prepared for the coroner as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
