Rashford ends goal drought as Man Utd thump Saints

England striker Marcus Rashford has put a 12-game goalless run behind him as Manchester ******* won 3-0 at Southampton in the Premier League.

Rashford doubled *******’s lead at St Mary’s on Saturday lunchtime after Matthijs de Ligt’s scored his first goal for the club.

Substitute Alejandro Garnacho then scored a third in the sixth minute of stoppage time to ease some of the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag after *******’s indifferent start to the season.

The win came after back-to-back defeats for ******* and was a real tonic for Rashford, who hadn’t scored since *******’s 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup in March.

He curled in a shot from the edge of the area to put ten Hag’s team 2-0 up in the 41st minute.

De Ligt, who joined ******* from Bayern Munich in the off-season, headed in from Bruno Fernandes’ cross in the 35th.

It was a much-needed with for ******* after losses to Brighton and Liverpool in the first three games of the season.

But it could have been a different story if Cameron Archer had converted a penalty for Southampton in the 33rd minute. Instead, his effort was saved by goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Newly promoted Southampton were reduced to 10-men in the 79th minute when Jack Stephens was sent off for a high challenge on Garnacho.
