Sinus sufferers at a higher risk of anxiety and depression

People with ongoing sinus problems might be at greater risk of anxiety and depression, according to new research.

A peer-reviewed study by scientists at the Houston Methodist Hospital found that people with these sinus issues were around four times more likely to have anxiety and two times more likely to have depression.

“During an 11-year *******, and accounting for socioeconomic attributes, lifestyle factors, and common morbidities, patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) were at a higher risk of anxiety and depression,” the study authors reported.

“Additionally, patients with anxiety and depression were more likely to develop CRS. Physicians and health care clinicians who commonly treat patients with anxiety, depression, and chronic rhinosinusitis should be vigilant regarding these risks and screen patients accordingly.”
