COLUMBUS, Ohio (

) — White Castle is ceasing operations at two manufacturing facilities, affecting nearly 100 employees.

The central Ohio-based fast food chain is closing a frozen food plant in Covington, Kentucky, and Lebanon, Indiana, White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson told NBC4. Richardson said these factories are used in the production of items sold in stores, including sliders.

Employees were notified of the closures in August. The decision will affect 59 Kentuckians and 38 Indiana residents when both facilities close on Oct. 11.

“For us, it’s really about assessing what the demand was going to be for the foreseeable future and how to really get the most efficient cost, while at the same time being there for the 10,000 team members who really rely on us as responsible citizens for the health of the business,” Richardson said.

Richardson said the corporation is accommodating the changes by adding an additional shift to a plant in Zanesville.
